Day 352 of Des McCabe's Personal Development Exercises SELF-EMPLOYED When you’re self-employed the focus can be on cash flow, finding new business, and keeping current clients. In all of this juggling, it’s easy to get lost in the money trap. We can end up chasing business rather than building our dream. So, our priority must be to focus on our purpose and to work on activities that take us forward, every day. And if we share our vision with others, they too can help us. We can do more than make a living. We can be delivering our dream today. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE 1. Write down your dream. Describe it in detail. Read this description each day. 2. Now be determined to do something every day to make your dream a reality. Make this your daily priority. Make this your new habit! Day 351 of Des McCabe's Personal Development Exercises EMPOWERMENT Empowerment is not something we do to others, or something we encourage others to do. Empowerment is not something we teach or train people to do. Empowerment is when we give ourselves permission to be something bigger than we are. Empowerment is enabling ourselves to become part of a bigger reality. So, what is the bigger reality that you want to be part of? And are you willing to immerse yourself in this, and give yourself to this? PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE 1. In what ways might you be trapped? 2. What is the bigger reality you would like to explore? Day 350 of Des McCabe's Personal Development Exercises VISITING TIME We are already in heaven. Our soul was created as pure love in the beginning, for an eternity of love. Our soul has already given totally of itself, so that we can experience life and love in this world. For when we were conceived, ownership of ourselves was entrusted to our human self. Our brain has no memory of heaven. Our ego knows nothing but itself. So, our journey in life is one of understanding. For soon we will go. Back to our souls. Back to heaven. Back to reality. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE 1. What would you like to say to your soul? 2. What have you learned on this journey of understanding about who you really are? Day 349 of Des McCabe's Personal Development Exercises LETTING GO The more you try to hold on to something you value, the harder it is to keep. The more that you are willing to let go of something you value the more it remains with you. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE
1. What are you desperate to hold onto? 2. What do you need to let go? Day 348 of Des McCabe's Personal Development Exercises EFFECTIVE LISTENING I am sometimes asked how God is continually working with us? How does he communicate, help, encourage and guide each of us? The first point is that God is love and we are love, so we are intimately connected as one. Once we see this, then we can begin to understand that we are in a dynamic and loving relationship. Secondly, everyone else is also made of love, and so, we are in this human endeavour together. We are all working for the same purpose. God communicates directly with us and directly through others to us. Indeed, everything happening around us is a conversation from God, a conversation of love. Everything that happens, guides us, more and more, to become total love, for this is what we are all to become. Very few people receive mystical visions, so how does God communicate with us? He speaks to us directly not through words but in thoughts, ideas, laughter, reflections, wonder, success and disappointment. He speaks directly to us through others, through their encouragement, their help, their guidance, their kindness and their support. All of this is happening constantly, within us and around us. But effective communication depends on two things, listening and responding. If we don’t ‘listen’ to what is happening today, within us, around us, in the direction of our lives, in our habits and in our work, then how can we ever understand our journey? And if we don’t respond with acknowledgement, with gratitude, with conversation, with challenging ourselves, and taking responsibility for the love that we are, then how will we grow? God is speaking to you now, as always. Love is calling you to listen, today. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE 1. How well are you listening to yourself? 2. Are you giving yourself time to grow? 3. How are others helping you on your journey to total love? Day 347 of Des McCabe's Personal Development Exercises SELF AWARENESS Prayer seems like such an outdated process, when conceived as reciting words to a God we don’t know. Meditation seems like a bit of a wacky process, when conceived as sitting waiting to discover yourself. Contemplation seems like a bit of a self-indulgent process, when conceived as reflecting on our life or situation. But these are all just processes, people trying to work out what is going on and what we are here for. So, if these processes don’t work for you, create your own, with your words and activities. Let’s call it self-awareness. Make this process your own. Give it form and structure. Allocate some time and then share what you learn. For the world needs your understanding, your compassion and your love. It needs your process. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE 1. What is your process of self awareness? What do you call it? How does it work? Day 346 of Des McCabe's Personal Development Exercises SCHOOL CURRICULUM There’s a new school curriculum. based on needs rather than subjects. It is one that empowers children and students to use their skills to the full and to become agents of change. It addresses eight key questions. How we can everybody in the world have food today? How can everyone in the world have a home today? How can everyone in the world be safe today? How can everyone in the world look after our planet today? How can everyone in the world work together today? How can everyone in the world use their skills to help others today? How can everyone in the world be kind today? How will each of us change the world today? PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE 1. The new school curriculum applies to adults also. How can you answer the eight questions? Day 345 of Des McCabe's Personal Development Exercises ONLINE COMMUNITY Our online business behaviour has largely been reduced to self-interest and personal promotion, that is unsustainable and fails to support everyone. We have apps where we do little or no networking, have so called friends who we rarely speak with, and email funnels designed to chase our money. We are capable of so much more. Collaboration can help us to leverage our experience, support each other, and get all the help that we need. We can be open to new relationships and business possibilities, not limited to selling stuff, ego massaging, vanity projects or holding onto what is ours. We can move to collective activities, freely offer our support and reach out to those who need our expertise and skills. Each of us can start a real online community. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE 1. Will you begin today to reach out and support those who you can help? 2. Could you encourage others to follow the rules of your online community - to help and look after every single person in the group? 3. Could you use your collective skills, experience and knowledge to create something amazing with every person? 4. Could you then encourage others to create their own real online communities? Day 344 of Des McCabe's Personal Development Exercises CONCENTRATION You cannot fill a full glass. So empty some. Empty out some more or start with an empty glass. Leave space within you for new thinking. Do not dilute your new thoughts Concentrate on your true way. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE 1. Are you too busy, chasing around and trying to fit everything in? Have you little time for your own development? What could empty out? Day 343 of Des McCabe's Personal Development Exercises DANCING QUEEN They’re going to play songs or hymns or music at your funeral. Anything you would you like to hear? What about the songs that we laughed and danced to, and that you still dance to? Make a list so that we can get everyone up to dance and laugh with you. So that we enjoy all being together. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT EXERCISE 1. Write out you Top 10 song list for your send-off occasion! 2. How are you dancing now? Are you 'having the time of your life'? |
